Terms of Service for Retrace
Effective Date: 26 August 2026
Welcome to Retrace. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Retrace app (the "Service").
By installing, accessing, or using Retrace on the Shopify App Store, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Who you are contracting with
Retrace is operated by Kayease Global Solutions LLP ("we", "us", "our"), whose registered address is 3rd Floor, RSEB officers Colony, 11B, Ram Marg, opp. Inox, D-Block, RSEB Colony, Amrapali Circle, Vaishali Nagar, Jaipur, Rajasthan 302021. "You" is the merchant who installs the app on a Shopify store, and the party these Terms are made with.
2. Description of Service
Retrace is a data backup and restore application designed for Shopify merchants. It automatically captures changes to supported store data (e.g., Products, Collections, Metaobjects) and provides a version history allowing merchants to review diffs and restore previous states.
Two limits are part of the Service by design, and both are shown inside the app:
- Orders are backed up for reference and export only, and are never restored. Recreating a deleted order would manufacture a financial record that never happened.
- Order backups cover the last 60 days. Shopify permits Retrace to read orders placed in the last 60 days only; each backup captures orders within that window, and older orders are never fetched.
3. Eligibility & Shopify Integration
Our Service is integrated exclusively with Shopify. By using Retrace, you must also comply with Shopify's Terms of Service. If your Shopify store is terminated, your access to Retrace will also end.
4. Subscriptions and Billing
Retrace offers paid subscriptions handled entirely through the Shopify Billing API. All charges appear on your regular Shopify invoice.
- You can upgrade, downgrade, or pause your subscription at any time.
- Cancellations and refunds are subject to Shopify's policies. We do not process payments directly.
- A failed payment never destroys data. Capture pauses seven days after the payment failure and the store is marked dormant after thirty, but nothing already saved is deleted at either step.
5. Data Security and Privacy
We take your data security seriously. Retrace encrypts backups at rest using industry-standard cryptography, under a key belonging to your store alone. We never request access to Shopify data outside the scope of what is required to perform backups, and we never restore orders, because recreating a deleted order would manufacture a financial record.
How we handle personal data is set out in the Privacy Policy, including where it is held. If you are a data controller under GDPR or equivalent law, the Data Processing Agreement forms part of these Terms and governs our processing on your behalf.
6. Limitations of Liability
Retrace provides backup utilities on an "as is" and "as available" basis. While our goal is 100% data integrity:
- We are not responsible for data loss outside our infrastructure, accidental deletion by the merchant, or limitations of Shopify's API.
- You agree to use the restore functionality at your own risk. Always review changes carefully before confirming a restore.
7. Modifications to the Service and Terms
We reserve the right to modify or discontinue Retrace at any time. We also reserve the right to update these Terms, which will take effect upon posting an updated version.
8. Data retention and deletion
Your plan sets how long saved versions are kept. A scheduled job deletes versions older than that window; the windows are:
| Plan | Version history kept |
|---|---|
| No plan assigned | 7 days |
| Free | 7 days |
| Starter | 30 days |
| Professional | 90 days |
| Business | 365 days |
| Custom plan | As agreed in writing |
Four things qualify that table, and all four are enforced in code rather than promised in prose:
- The newest saved version of anything is never deleted, however old it is. A product untouched for two years is still protected. Ageing out applies only to the versions behind the current one.
- You may shorten the window, never lengthen it. Settings → Retention accepts any period shorter than your plan's; a longer one is a plan change.
- A downgrade does not delete on the day it happens. The previous, longer window is honoured for a further 7 days after the new plan takes effect, and we email you when that clock starts, so there is time to export or change your mind.
- We never delete your history because a payment failed. See section 4.
After you uninstall. Uninstalling does not delete anything. Your history is kept so that reinstalling picks up where you left off, and your subscription is ended so nothing is charged in the meantime. Shopify then sends the mandatory shop/redact request — normally about 48 hours after the uninstall — and on receiving it we delete every object we hold for your store, delete the stored records, and destroy your store's encryption key, which makes anything that could survive those deletions permanently unreadable. That step is irreversible by design, and it is the only retention period that is not yours to choose: it is Shopify's.
You can also delete your history yourself, at any time, from the Retrace dashboard.
9. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them or from your use of the Service. Nothing here removes any protection you have under mandatory law in the place you do business.
10. Contact
Raise a request from the Help & support screen inside the app — it arrives with your store, your plan and your recent backups attached — or write to sunny@kayease.com. Questions about personal data go to sunny@kayease.com.
